Yijin Jiu: A New Era in Chinese Medicinal Liquor Packaging

Introducing Dabin Yao's Award-Winning Design for a Traditional Nutritious Liquor

Yijin Jiu, a Chinese medicinal liquor, has been given a new lease of life through the innovative packaging design by Dabin Yao. This design, which won the Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2017, combines traditional elements with modern aesthetics, creating a unique and appealing product.

The inspiration for this design came from the desire to create a packaging that was both practical and visually striking. The internal packaging is a ceramic liquor bottle, suitable for liquid product storage, while the external packaging uses a combination of color paper printing and corrugated paper, ensuring protection during transport. The packaging design adopts a minimalist approach, using only two colors - gold and black - and simple geometric figures. This simplicity creates a strong visual impact, reflecting the robust character of the product.

What sets this design apart is its consideration of the product's target audience. The masculine colors of black and gold were chosen to highlight the strength and power of men, as the liquor has a nourishing effect on males. The triangular figures further enhance this visual impression, symbolizing fortitude and robustness. This careful thought process behind the design choices ensures that the packaging resonates with its intended consumers.

The realization of this design involved the use of ceramic packaging, color printing paper, and corrugated paper. The ceramic bottle has a capacity of 600 ml, with dimensions that are both practical and aesthetically pleasing. The carton size is also designed to be convenient for transportation and storage, further enhancing the product's appeal.

The design process, which took place in Ningbo from August 2015 to August 2016, involved thorough research and testing. The designers analyzed the product's features, target audience, and price point, and used these factors to guide their choices of materials, processes, and forms. The result is a packaging design that not only enhances the product's value but also embodies its objectives.

One of the key challenges faced during this project was balancing the minimalist design with the product's characteristics. Traditional Chinese medicinal liquors often use rich colors and intricate graphics, but Dabin Yao chose to break away from this norm. The straightforward design, with its direct and simple graphics and colors, represents a refreshing change, making Yijin Jiu stand out in the market.

In conclusion, Yijin Jiu's packaging design is a testament to Dabin Yao's innovative approach to design. By combining practicality with visual appeal, and traditional elements with modern aesthetics, this design has not only won a prestigious award but also set a new standard in the packaging of Chinese medicinal liquors.
